Learn from Disney

Disney is taking a big stand on taking care of the planet, they call it "Friends for Change: Project Green"

If you click on get started there is a whole list of pledges you can take anything from unplugging things when not in use to using rechargeable batteries they also have weekly challenges this week is bringing a waste free lunch to school (reusable containers and silverware.) The cool thing about their pledges is that they show the impact. For example if one million kids unplugged their cell phone chargers when not in use it would save 1,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Check out the website for more hints but warning pause the video in the lower left corner if you don't want to go crazy.

Ouch- This is hard to hear.

1 Corinthians 3:1-4

1Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? 4For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?

Quote from The Search for Significance by Robert S. McGee

"Many of us are like the Christians at Corinth. We still try to obtain our significance the world's way, through success and approval. Often, we look only to other believers rather than to Christ Himself. we learn to use the right christian words, claim divine power and guidance, and organize programs, and yet so often, our spiritual facade lacks depth and substance. Our spiritual activities become human efforts lacking the real touch of the mater. In effect, we live a lie."

Ouch that is hard to hear, especially when it is true. How do I go about changing my focus from the praise of man (including myself) to the glory of God?
This was shown to me very clearly last night. I just found out that I didn't make it to the final round of interviews for a promotion I applied for. When I was thinking it over last night one of the many, many thoughts that went through my head is who was I doing this for? Who was I trying to impress? Don't get me wrong, that wasn't my only motivation and I will apply for this position again, but why is that even a part of my motive? My reason on this earth has nothing to do with impressing those around me it has everything to do with God.

Thoughts on Thursday (just a day late)

Sorry about this being late I was on a plane most of yesterday and the Wi Fi at the termanal was SLOW.

Leave time for eachother.

I know we have all heard date your spouse, la de da. But in general our lives get so busy that we don't even see eachother. Make sure your not over burdening yourselves with extra sports, projects and events so that you never see eachother. This is hard to do in a society that tells you to strive harder, achive faster, and do more so that you can 'get ahead in life.'

Don't forget that we are commited to God and eachother, that is what we said in our vows, not the world and its views.

A few green cleaning tips

~Use cloth instead of paper towels, this can save a lot of paper, manufacturing impact and chemicals. I understand there are somethings that you just need a paper towel for and that is fine but most everyday cleaning can be done with a towel or micro fiber cloth.

~Use cleaning concentrate as the basis for all of your cleaning products. If you look at your ingredients the first one is always water, what a waste of plastic to hold that extra water each time you buy a new bottle. Instead buy a concentrate that can make many bottles and use the same spray bottles over and over to mix the cleaners in. I use Shaklee and their one base can make, household cleaner, window cleaner, and a degreaser. Then when I empty the concentrate bottle recycle it!

~If you like to use pre-made cleaners buy ones with less harsh chemicals with recyclable containers.

~Use the dishwasher but fill it up!!! Believe it or new efficient dishwashers use less water than hand washing.

~Use laundry concentrate (less plastic because there is no water added) and biodegradable dryer sheets.

Thoughts on Thursdays

"Watch what you say in public"
"The King of Queens" is a very funny show I'm not going to disagree, however it does it often at the expense of the husband, ouch!
In this post I want to encourage people to evaluate how they address each other in public. We need to make sure that even if there is something that needs to be said, its not said in front of everyone. Why do we feel the need to tear each other down with everyone watching, what good can this possibly do? Out of respect for your spouse bring these things to their attention in private.

Thoughts on Thrsdays

Don't just listen,change.
So its fair to say that when you get married you will find some flaws in yourself. If your lucky enough not to see them yourself your spouse might be willing to point them out for you. Now while that may be hard to hear, trust me its hard to say as well. I certainly don't want to tell the Hubby things I know will hurt him. However somethings just need to be said. So here is my advice for the day, don't just listen when your spouse points something out (or you notice yourself) change it!!! I know it maybe hard, its probably something you have either done forever or do self consciously but try.
Apparently I'm a pushy person, that wasn't easy to hear but I'm sure it was even harder for the Hubby to deal with. I tend to repeat the same thing over and over and over and well you get the point till I annoy Him into doing it. So I'm working on it. I'm guessing this wont be an overnight change but I'm working on it.

The 3 R's

So I figured it was time to post something green on this site again.

REDUCE:
Buy things fresh, not pre-packaged whenever possible and use cloth bags instead of the plastic ones for produce here is what I use but there are lots of options out there. I found these on Etsy just type in produce bags you will get lots of options in sizes, color and price.

REUSE:
If you use plastic bags cool, thats fine its up to you but can you reuses them? Doggie poo bags, trash can liners, liter box liners, recycle them at Wal-Mart, crochet them into rugs (just google it,) give to your local food pantry.

RECYCLE:
Many people recycle the basics but have you ever payed attention to how many things can be recycled? For example yogurt cups, rinse and recycle. When I buy spinach at the store if I can't find it fresh (reduce) then I buy it in bulk in a plastic tub that can be recycled!!! Magazines can now be recycled along with the glossy ads in the newspaper!!!

Do Good

Wow read this and think for a min. Its a quote from my book "The Search for Significance." I'm only a few chapters in because I'm trying to really read and comprehend what I'm reading. Therefore I'm still in the ground laying chapters. This section is in chapter on "God's Answer: Justification" and is talking about sin and reasons not to sin #4 is "His commands for us are good."

"In today's society, we have lost the concept of doing somethign because it is the right thing to do. Instead, we do things in exchange for some reward or favor, or to avoid punisment. Wouldn't it be novel to do sometign simply because it is the rgiht thing to do?"
Wow, isn't that the truth.

I'm learning

You know its hard to be human, always feeling pressure to live up to every ones expectations.

However do the people around us really expect the things we think they do? Does my husband really expect the house to be spotless and for dinner to be perfectly timed to his arrival from work? NO, and he has told me as much, so why don't I believe him? Who is really putting the pressure on me....me?

Why? am I really that much of a people pleaser? I'm starting (as in just done with Chapter 1) the book "The Search for Significance" by Robert S. McGee. Since I'm just starting it I don't know if I will recommend it or not but I will keep you updated as I go through. Here is the quote from the book that honestly convinced me to read it

"But the man or woman who lives only for the love and attention of others is never satisfied-at least, not for long. Despite our efforts we will never find lasting, fulfilling peace if we must continually prove ourselves to others"
That sounds a awful lot like me....Hummm.

Thoughts on Thrusdays

So this is called thoughts on Thursdays and I'm excited to share things from my marriage (new as it may be) that make it work.
"Take care of those you love"
This Sunday I started to feel a little off, but we finally got a group of friend together to go to Buca, something we have been trying to do for weeks, so I took a nap and off we went. Afterward we ended up going to a friends house and hanging out for a while. Hubby was happy for some guy time and I had fun with my girl Vee. However the next day I was feeling worse, but we had plans, things that needed to be done, so we did them. But when we got home Ry sat me down and started making me relax, made me soup, got blankets, water and anything else I needed. It was great! Then Tuesday I tried to go to work (bad idea) after coming back home, he tucked me in and took me to the doctor later after I woke up from my 3 1/2 hour nap.
I feel so very loved when he does things like this, Its amazing to know that this man loves me so much that he will put his stuff aside just to look after me, I am one blessed girl.
