Thoughts on Thursday: Dress Yourself

We hear it all the time "Dress for success" right? We all know this applies to work but how can it apply to a marriage? I think it can in a few different ways.

#1 This one is the obvious way, don't always be in sweats. I'm not saying you have to dress up and look perfect, I'm not even saying you have to do this everyday. But once in a while make an effort to put yourself together. We made such an effort when we were dating and on our wedding day, what happened after we said 'I Do?'

#2 Dress yourself with the right attitude. How you choose to react to your spouse is up to you. Make sure you approach problems, confrontation, and reprimands with a respectful and loving attitude. Also be excited to see your spouse, its nice to come home to a warm greeting.

#3 'Dress' your bed. It doesn't need to be perfect, but have you ever noticed how nice it is to walk into your bedroom with the bed looking good? I don't think I have to tell you where this might lead...

I had some great pictures of the hubby and I getting ready for the wedding that I thought I uploaded last night. However when I got to work they weren't there :( I'll add them tonight.

that's so true. I like it when my husband dresses nicely (which is rare when we're at home). And a freshly made bed is so nice!

I have to admit I am a sweatpants fan, but we also make an effort to go out and dress nice once or twice a week. My husby loves a made bed and I never really cared either way. Now I am realizing that a made bed is actually quite nice (don't tell him I like it so much, then he'll make me make it).

So wise. I love it. My thought to add to #2 is realize that you are on THE SAME TEAM! So when you approach whatever you need to talk about you are talking to someone ON YOUR SIDE, NOT against you or in competition with you. It really changes your attitude/approach and gets a far better result.

I hate making the bed but I do it religiously every morning because it's so nice to come home to! It really does make a difference ;)

great tips! I am such a stickler for making the bed each morning- it seriously makes the room look so much tidier.

You know what is really funny about the whole making the bed thing? Its not me, its my husband. I like how it looks but he is in bed when I leave so...good thing he agress with the whole thought.

I was brought up with my mom telling my brother, sister and me to never get sloppy with our appearances at home. She said my brother shouldn't sit around in his white undershirt after work or on weekends and we shouldn't always be in our sweats with no make-up. She said "Why would you give the rest of the world your best, but not your own spouse?" This is SO true and I've lived by it for sure. This doesn't mean I don't wear my comfy clothes. Thankfully these days there are super cute and even sexy comfy clothes. Yoga pants are quite sexy with a cute top. I agree with the other points as well :)

Oh, my hubby makes our bed too. He's ALWAYS in it when I get up, every day of the week. Let's just say that he's the neat freak out of the two of us though. On the very rare occassion that I'm the last to get up (maybe 3 times a year!), I don't make the bed, LOL.
